Saying Thank You on 24 November: Sending Flowers to a Teacher in Turkey
Think of the teacher who patiently helped your child learn to read, or who made a shy pupil feel at home. In Turkey, 24 November is Teachers' Day (Öğretmenler Günü), when pupils and parents say thank you for exactly that. In 2026 the date lands on a Tuesday — schools are open, so flowers can go straight to the school.
Heartfelt beats lavish
The whole point of the day is gratitude. An expensive present can leave a teacher feeling awkward, and many schools ask parents not to give valuable gifts anyway. A potted plant or a small bouquet, with a handwritten note, strikes the right tone. If the class is clubbing together, a single, larger arrangement is a lovely idea.
Plant or bouquet?
- Potted plant: teachers' favourite by far — it lives for weeks in the classroom or staff room. See our potted plants.
- Small, cheerful bouquet: daisies and gerberas are bright and easy to carry home.
- Seasonal flowers: put together from November's freshest blooms; seasonal and wild flowers are a happy middle ground.
Leave red roses out — their romantic meaning doesn't fit a teacher. White, yellow, pink and orange are the usual picks.
Getting flowers into the school
- In the address, include the school's full name and address, the teacher's full name and, if you know it, their class.
- Add a phone number — yours or the school's — so the florist can confirm delivery.
- Flowers are normally left with the school office or security; a morning delivery during school hours works best.
- Orders in before 12:00 noon Turkey time go out the same day, but 24 November is hectic, so order a few days early and pick the date in the calendar.

Teachers love a potted plant most, though a small, colourful bouquet is lovely too. Steer clear of red roses — they read as romantic.
