Russian Mother's Day Comes in November: Getting Flowers to Mum on Time in 2026

If you're used to celebrating mums in spring, November probably isn't on your radar. In Russia, though, Mother's Day (День матери) falls on the last Sunday of November — 29 November in 2026. Because the date differs from Turkey, the UK or Germany, it's easy to let it slip by when your mother, mother-in-law or a dear friend lives in Russia. Here's how to get it right.

Mark your calendar: send on Saturday

29 November 2026 is a Sunday, and our local florists in Russia don't deliver on Sundays. To have the flowers waiting for the day itself, set the delivery date to Saturday 28 November. In Russia, a bouquet that turns up the day before isn't strange at all — it's simply part of the build-up to the celebration.

Orders received before 12:00 noon Turkey time (12:00 in Moscow, too) go out the same day, but florists are very busy that week, so it's wise to order a few days early.

Count the stems

Happy occasions in Russia call for odd numbers of flowers: 3, 5, 7, 9, 11… Even numbers (2, 4, 6, 12) are kept for funerals and memorials — so never send your mum an even number of roses. Nobody counts the stems in a mixed bouquet, but with loose roses, people always do.

• Roses: always a safe bet. Pink and white speak of tenderness, red of deep love.
• Chrysanthemums: although the French link them with funerals, in Russia they're a cheerful autumn favourite and among the freshest flowers around in November.
