Which Sunday Is Mum's? Planning Mother's Day Flowers in 2026–2027

You wait all year to tell your mum how much she means to you — and catching the day a week early or a week late takes the shine off the surprise. That's surprisingly easy to do if she lives in another country, because Mother's Day isn't celebrated on the same day everywhere. Here are the dates in calendar order, with the short story behind each one.

The March celebrations

• United Kingdom — Mothering Sunday: the Sunday three weeks before Easter, which is 7 March in 2027. It grew out of an old tradition linked to Lent, so the date moves with Easter every year.
• The Arab world (widely in the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia): fixed on 21 March every year — the first day of spring.

May, the busiest month

• Turkey, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Belgium and the US: the second Sunday of May — 9 May in 2027. This tradition began in the United States in the early 1900s and spread to many countries, Turkey and Germany among them.
• France — Fête des Mères: the last Sunday of May — 30 May in 2027. If it clashes with Pentecost, it moves to the first Sunday of June.

November: Russia

Russia has celebrated Mother's Day on the last Sunday of November since 1998 — 29 November in 2026. Even so, the day Russian mothers are truly showered with flowers is 8 March, International Women's Day.

A note for the Turkish diaspora

Living in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands or Belgium makes things simple: Mother's Day falls on the same day as in Turkey. For delivery to your mum in Turkey on the day, order before 12:00 noon Turkey time that Sunday — although a few days' head start is always more relaxed. In the UK? Keep the two apart: Mothering Sunday is in March, Turkish Mother's Day is in May.

Sending to a mother in another country

International orders placed before 12:00 noon Turkey time are delivered the same day as well. But Mother's Day week is the busiest of the year for florists, so ordering at least a week ahead secures both the flowers and the date you have in mind.
